Water lily is called "Suiren" in Japanese and ”睡蓮”in Chinese, which literally mean "sleeping lotus." Just like this naming, water lily seems to like sleeping. Generally, it starts opening flower in the late morning. Then it starts closing flower in the early evening.
Usually water lily sleeps for a long time like 10 to 16 hours. However, I just realized this night blooming water lily here was such a hard worker. It started opening around 7:00 p.m. and kept opening all night and morning. Then it closed its flower around 2:00 p.m. It sleep for only 6 hours and then it repeats opening again a few more times.
All of sudden, I had a good idea!!! Just like a dragon fruit flower, this may be an interesting offering to Buddha during night!
Also I had another good idea which I hope to show you tonight through my youtube channel!
P.S.
By the way, lotus and water lily are different. Water lily doesn't have a seed pod and "no can eat its pod and root."
The followings are my past articles about lotus and water lily.
I hope you'd enjoy it.
