As I introduced it before, Buddhism and photography have something in common and I can explain Buddhism from the view point of photography. At the same time, I can promote enjoyment of photography from the view point of Buddhism.
Generally speaking, photography is said to be the "subtraction." You can subtract unwanted elements out of the entire image. And you can take only what you want to take....I understand that's one of the ideas of photographies.
For example, these pictures above are results of my "subtration." I took out what I didn't want to take. That was a pond where water lily bloomed.
What kind of pond can you guess from the pictures?
Please take a look at pictures above again,
and please imagine the pond.
The pond is ......

This is the picture of reality of my pond. Because it was messy, I wanted to forcus only beauty of Water lily by subtracting leaves and pond out of the entire image.
Yes, the reality is dirty and messy, however, photography is not take "just reality," but to take "your way of viewing the reality." It's all up to you.
In like manner, your life, your world and your reality can be understood by your way of understanding or viewing the world. It's hard to change the world and in many cases, it's impossible to change it, but your understanding of the world is quite up to you. You can always change the way to understand the world. And Buddhism is the one which teaches the way to accept the reality. The older you get, the more you will need it.
I'm now thinking to start something like "Amature Photography Club" here at Koloa Jodo Mission if some people are interested in. Hopefully, after approval by our members, I'd like to provide the place of gathering and share some equipments like printer and photo gears. Maybe, once a month, we get together to go shooting to capture various elements and sites of our island. We print out what we took and eventually we have an exhibition here.
